On 12th March 2020, the Research and Development Institute at Phuket Rajabhat University (RDI PKRU) hosted a workshop in ‘The Application and IP Registration for Research and Innovation Development’ at MS conference room in the Faculty of Management Science. Asst. Prof. Dr. Atipan Siammai, the Director of RDI; university executives and academic personnel attended the workshop. The instructor for this workshop was Dr. Husleena Boontawee, the Patent Inspector at Professional Level of Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), educating the attendants about intellectual property especially in registration of patents, petty patents, copyrights, and information searching for applications of patent registration.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Atipan Siammai, the Director of RDI, said that “RDI hosted this workshop in order to promote research and innovation creation for local communities conducted by the staff of the university. So far, the researchers have been working on providing knowledge, creating tools and inventions that are beneficial for the community. However, an important part of the work, which should be done together, is the registration of the intellectual property including patents, petty patents, and copyright of new inventions. As the mission of the university is to provide academic service for local development, this could be presented to the competent authorities in the province or even in the country, so that the authorities could use them to develop their service areas in Andaman provinces. In this workshop, the specialist from DIP suggested the attendants’ techniques and inclusive processes in registration of intellectual properties that would enhance the reputation of research and benefit local communities.”
